Hi Alan, thanks for leaving a comment. I'm sorry it has taken so long replying. The gatepost belonged to a detached house which was demolished sometime in the 1980's or possibly very early 1990's. It was latterly owned by the Crossley family and I used to go to school (Farnworth Grammar School) with one of their boys, Tim. I am only speculating here, but it was possibly built for the owner or manager of the mills which used to be directly behind the house.
If you don't mind me asking, are you the Alan Wolstenholme who has written an Industrial History of Farnworth? If you are, could you please contact me if possible? Many thanks.
